Summary

When the French company Delphine released Flashback on the 16-bit platforms of the Mega Drive and SNES it set a new benchmark in visual performance as well as incorporating stunningly addictive gameplay. Public demand for the game prompted Delphine to put Fade To Black into development; the first sequel to Flashback, and also the first in the series to be 3D. Released on the then newly launched PlayStation, its 3D capabilities, along with the Flashback name ensured that Fade to Black would not go unnoticed.

Taking control of the hero, Conrad Heart, once again, you find yourself drifting through space after escaping from the Morphs. You then wake up only to succumb to the knowledge that you have been found and are once again in their custody. With help from your partner, John, you escape your cell, and so the adventure begins.

First and foremost, there are a variety of controls that require practice to master. Unfortunately there is no training mission so it’s advisable that you spend a few extra minutes in your virtual cell to familiarise yourself with them. Fade to Black has a reasonably steep learning curve that seems to only get steeper as you progress through the game’s thirteen levels. Levels are complex and consist of tough combat sessions with the morphs. To make matters worse, your enemy has set up booby traps every step of the way and you must tackle each challenge with great caution. One false move and it’s game over. Good luck.
