Summary
After Burner was originally an arcade game that was massive in the 80s. It was ported to most of the platforms of the day, including the NES.
In the game, you are the American pilot of a F-14 Tomcat jet fighter that is armed to the teeth with machine gun fire and missiles. The premise of After Burner is basically to shoot down as many enemy aircrafts as possible, while avoiding their incoming fire. With 18 stages of increasing difficulty After Burner will keep even the most experienced gamer occupied.
When discussing the graphics of After Burner, it must be remembered that the NES is only an 8-Bit machine. The graphics in this version haven't got a patch on the original arcade, but it must be said, everything is clearly depicted and colourful. The controls are easy to pick up, and once mastered it doesn't take long before you are blowing the hell out of everything. The music is definitely the worst aspect of the game, but that can always be turned off and replaced with the Top Gun soundtrack - singing along with Take My Breath Away and other such classics.
