Summary

This compilation combines Bubble Bobble with Rainbow islands, and Rainbow Island Enhanced.

Bubble Bobble was an 8-bit classic. Two little dinosaurs, called Bub and Bob, tear around an increasingly complex and contrived 'block' landscape firing bubbles. The bubbles impede the progress of baddies, then bursting them kills the baddies. It's as simple as it sounds, but about a thousand times more addictive.

This version on the playstation is pure retro fun. It's an arcade perfect conversion that will have retro games in ecstasy, but leave newer games perplexed.

Rainbow Islands was the second game in the Bubble Bobble series, and was the definitive perfect platform game. Apparently simple gameplay, coupled with superb level design and baddie behaviour combined with some fiendish secrets to produce the blueprint that platformers followed for years.

Unfortunately, this conversion uses a button for jump and a button to fire your rainbow weapon, which is awkward. And unlike other Playstation titles, you can't re-config the keys.

Rainbow Islands Enhanced isn't... Enhanced that is! It just has (slightly) better graphics. So a flawed package, but one that will provide hours and hours of 'just one more go' gameplay nonetheless.
