Aardvark

Got info on Aardvark?

Aardvark Software was founded by Nick Pelling in April 1982. Their first product, 'Atom Galaxians' was promoted via a small ad in the back of Your Computer magazine.

All the other games companies of the time were going for whizz-bang names, like "Superior", "Power", etc: Nick hated all that, so chose something irrelevant instead.

Aardvark then published a few more well-regarded games, most notably for the BBC Micro and Acorn Electron. These included titles such as Zalaga and Frak!

When the 8-bit industry hit a slump, and some big distributors of the time went under owing money, the company made the decision to quit publishing, and concentrate exclusively on development.

Since then as their reputation has grown, Aardvark has developed for increasingly larger publishers - Activision, Probe, Acclaim, Psygnosis. The company also expanded to become a partnership (Nick Pelling and Julie Pelling).

By the late nineties, Aardvark were collaborating with SCi to produce Carmageddon for the Sony Playstation. The development was not completed, and relationships betweent he two companies broke down acrimoniously, leading to court procedings.
