In between. People will buy it because it's new, cheaper and looks so awful that the Japanese/Asian market will go for it, and some people simply have been waiting for the slim. This might represent 80%+ short term sales, in the long term though to get the extra 20%+ you might add all the backwards compatibility factors, and 10 cent ports that I hear were removed. That 20%+ is a fan base that supports in the face of rival fans of the competition and vital extra numbers for developer support in the face of competition. Sony also dropped the ball with the promotion of entertainment and Linux (hopefully they pick that up again soon).

Maybe I was the first to vote and it didn't come through, or maybe it is. I tried clicking on the reply to your comment on the poll page, and the reply link just disappeared, and I had to come to forum layout to get reply to work.

Anyway, what was your 'other' all about?

Designed live results to be cached, OK.

Other, as in the Other results category I voted in. there is another problem though, anonymous seems to have one image code result stream, so if you open multiple news pages to read and reply, each page gets an updated image so all the other pages images become invalid, then on each fail reply attempt it gives you a more recent invalid image till you get to the most recent on all the pages except one which also becomes invalid once you get a previous page to go through. Well, it did when you introduced it a year or two ago.

I am using Opera 10 release candidate of course, usually the most standards compliant and advanced major web browser on the net. Sorry if I was a bit picky, just that in the old days the Spong forum were the only forum site to give me lots of problems (apart from a cookie problem on one other site caused by woefully outdated software, but they had over 16 million subscribers).

The latest revision of the site has much better cache updating. Finger crossed this should be ready for user testing a few weeks.

Wow! Clearly I never noticed (I always log in), but it makes complete sense - the "captcha" image is tied to your session, so if you open a new window it will regenerate the captcha the server is expecting - so if you were to open five windows, when you go back to the first the site is actually expecting the code from the fifth window, not what you see in the first window. This is an off-the-shelf component, so I'll have to go back and see if there's a fix or workaround. If not we'll roll over to different solution.

I've had occasion to run into problems with Opera's Javascript implementation, which seems to be what's going on here. Clicking 'reply' should replace the button with the comment fields. We use a pretty robust cross browser framework (jQuery), so it's surprising that is doesn't work in Opera. Will take a look.

I suppose I stopped logging in because thee was also a problem with the login function a while back that made it difficult to log in, or to even find the login (I used to have to take the page from author to non-author view search fort he login and then login.

I remember seeing one that used vines and leaves in black and white sketch type, liked it very much, it gets hard to see and guess the colored ones.

I thought they were using Sun Java plug in (but does that do Java script) which is a pain anyway, as it is so big.

There are some other things I have noticed. The backgrounds, until things are loaded (dialup) the background can interfere with the text, but I don't know if it is still happening, it used to happen depending on background and how the page was set up. At the moment, I get a big black rectangle on one half the screen in the background, so maybe it is still happening, i haven't bothered to look. Having posted this, I have inadvertently deleted something I want to reply to, and the previous messages are not listed on the page. Also, this would definitely be Opera, if I post and the message fails to go through, lost connection, failed to go through etc, when I press the back arrow to attempt a report, the message text goes missing. Related to this on some systems (I forget if it odes it here), is trying to login after you type the message and you get presented with a blank message form to retype the message. So, it would be good if you could have login details above the message so you can login at the same time as submitting, or ask for login if you leave image response blank.

Even now, as I post, I inadvertently deleted something I want to reply, and the previous messages are not listed on the page.

There was something else, but I forget.

Sorry,

Your welcome. I have brought up a handful of times of issues here a number of times, and I think you are the first person that has bothered to respond or even thank me.

Many people are too lazy/unmoved to let you know, and passing people will just pass on.

I wont buy one after the way Sony screwed Europe when they first launched the PS3.

I was all ready to buy a PS3 that Christmas, then Sony announced that Europe was going to be delayed till Easter, yet the Americans and Japs got theirs in time and Sony banned anyone from importing them.

What a dumb-ass company Sony is, annoying the whole of Europe.

I got that fed up of waiting for Sony I got a 360 instead, and with Microsoft actually caring about their customers and giving them a 3 year warranty, compared to Sony's 12-month warranty on the PS3 it's the best thing ever.

Possibly the worst console I own is the PSP, what ever happened to that? Sony protected it from homebrew games that much that they killed it, yet Nintendo turned a blind eye to the R4 system on the DS and have ended up with a simply amazing hand held console that most people want. I have both a DS and a PSP and there are far more times I pick up my DS, rather than my PSP.

@Darren "...with Microsoft actually caring about their customers and giving them a 3 year warranty"

: | BAHAHA Are you kidding me? The only reason they gave that was 'cos of the EPIC FAIL that is Xbox 360 hardware. And for that reason I shall never invest in a one because it will just end up being a paper weight after playing on it for a few hours.

Microsoft really did sucker punch you Xbox owners.

@Way just to let you know that I've updated the captcha to lock it to the page it is loaded on, so there no longer any interference when you Ctrl+click links to launch off new windows or tabs contain multiple comment forms.

WRT the loading of the skin graphics, you can always drop back to a lightweight skin via the top navigation. "Dimple" is good for a light background, and "Sports Resort Black" if you prefer the white on black look.

I'll continue to look into the other points you raised.
