And you fail to see how my bringing up people who constantly disparage MS as a matter of course is related to your bringing Joji's other comments into it?

Sorry dude, you don't get to define the scope of discussion by fiat. Thats not how it works.

And no, an iPhone doesn't compare as validly with the DS as the PSP...as I have stated, the PSP and iPhone are multifunctional(weren't phone functions mooted for the PSP?), while the DS is almost exclusively a gaming platform.

Yes I do fail to see the point of your initial post. My initial post was related to Joji, yours appeared to of been posted in the wrong thread.

I think your so wrong on this point it's almost funny. You do realize what the USP of the DS and the iPhone is? Every decent DS game under the sun could be ported to the iPhone easily.

now your just spouting nonsense, the intended functionality of the PSP and an iPhone that plays games are far closer and comprable than either unit compared with the DS.

Why is it nonsense? The iPhone has more in common with a DS than the PSP. Touch screen, check, microphone, check. Can you not see that any DS game that uses the touchscreen or microphone would work perfectly on the iPhone. PSP games wouldn't work as well on the iPhone due to it's lack of physical buttons.

Thats like saying an PC is more comprable to a Xbox than a Mac because the software is easy to port...you're talking about hardware and perhipherals...I'm talking about function.

sharing some of the same architechture yes...but a PC is a multifunctional device whose actual capabilities are more comprable with a Mac than an Xbox (due to design). While the Xbox was designed (like the DS) from the ground up as a gaming device, with few provisions for multifunctionality, and restrictions upon what potential for multifunctionality is present.

Might be one reason why the DS is so successful.

(and yes, I'm aware that an Xbox is essentially a PC, but in function, its been restricted to being a game console)

What are you babbling on about? In summary: if you were to have games on an iPhone, DS style ones would work perfectly due to the fact that they both share a TOUCHSCREEN and a microphone, why is this so difficult for you to understand. If some unscrupulous coder created a DS emulator for the iPhone, you would probably have the best multipurpose mobile device around.

Now I realize you just argue for the sake of it even in the face of being wrong. Or do you not realise that DS can play games, access the Web, run homebrew, play video and play music. Does that not class as multifunctional?

Nope! Web browser & MP3 player are official Nintendo products, Datel make a media player & an M3 Simply allows homebrew without any "hacking" of the DS.

Well, I'll concede the point then, the DS is a multifunction device.

I could, and will make the argument that multifunctionality is more integral, to the design, the function, and the public perception of the iPhone and PSP than the DS. Both of the former were/are promoted as "all-singing, all-dancing wunderdevices", while the DS...well, its a Nintendo... I can turn an Xbox into a media hub, but its not as evolved into the role as a 360...

Hmm...you see the touchscreen and see that as the important bit linking the iPhone and PSP...I see the integral multifunctionality as the important bit...fair enough I suppose...

Not to fan the flames of this argument any more than is necessary, but the iPhone has no buttons, so you'd have to do "soft" buttons for the d-pad, face buttons and shoulder buttons on the DS.

The NES emulator guy admits that his soft buttons are unsatisfactory and he only has six to deal with. When you get ten on there you're seriously running out of screen space to display the game.

I did state earlier in this convoluted argument that games that use the touch screen and microphone would work perfectly on the iPhone. It's why I stated that DS games would be more suitable to the iPhone than PSP ones. (emulating 12 virtual buttons of the PSP control system would be pointless). In summary Elite Beat agents would be great on an iPhone, Daxter wouldn't.
