i assume they are reffering to the uk price point as 600 euro is £425 around abouts(£403 at todays excahnge rate) and 500 euro is £325, i would guess spong just got the exchange rate wrong?, or maybe they didnt and got the uk price wrong (please let it be that?) care to clarify spong?

We misprinted the Euro price in this case - it should have been e599. My apologies, this has been rectified.

Cheers

I'm confused. You guys say there won't be a pricecut. Instead we get a 500 euro PS3 with 2 controllers and 2 games? How is that NOT a pricecut? We now pay 600 euro WITHOUT a second controller and any games. So it's a pricecut of 100 euro, and they throw in a free controller and 2 free games.

Unless my mind is failing me: 600 > 500

Care to explain?

As I see it, 2 games and an extra controller don't mean jack unless you actually planned to buy those two games and an extra controller. Sure you could flog them and pocket the cash (assuming you could find another PS3 owner to buy them, as Sony said, the games are the most popular sellers so finding another owner who doesn't already have them and actually wants them is going to be pretty difficult).

My point stands. £250 for the 60GB machine in the US. £425 for it in the UK. Add 2 games to the US machine and an extra controller and it's still nowhere near £400 (and take into account the fact that to Sony, the games are worth about £7 each since they are 1st party titles (based on manufacturing costs)).

Their offer is not generous. Dropping the price of the console to £300 would not even be generous, it would simply be fair. If they dropped it to £325 and bundled 1 game and a controller that would be fairly generous.

i agree,

US Pay

PS3 - $500/£250
Motorstorm - $50/£25
RFOM - $50/£25
Extra Controller - $30/£15

Total - $630/£315

WE Pay

PS3 Bundle - $850/£425

Theres a Big Difference We Currently Pay More Than The Yanks For Just The PS3 where as they get all the above For £110 Less than we currently pay for JUST the PS3!!!, how is this fair in comparison

US / UK

iPod 30GB $249/£125 / $360/£180
Nokia N80 $480/£240 / $540/£280
40" Sony HDTV $1200/£600 / $1400/£700

all these are from amazon UK, and amazon US on the exact same products

it really doesnt matter what it is we get screw on price we 10-25% more for everything electrical, this also goes for dvds, books, even clothes its like they think that here in the uk we cant work out $100 isnt £100!

and im sick of it i really thought sony would come through on it this time but im sorely disapointed.

I'm not sure who you're talking to. My question was a result of an error by Spong, which they now rectified. They posted the PS3 bundle would cost 500 euro, while PS3 has always been 600 euro in Europe. Obviously they made a mistake, and 500 should have been 599. Had you read the posts following mine, that would have been obvious.

correct me if i'm wrong.... UK / European reatailers only make a small margin on the console, and make the majority of their profits on upselling with further games and peripherals.

by adding games and an extra controller into the pack... how many sales of games / peripherals are the retailers going to lose.

Nice well thought out plan again, Sony..
