Breaking: Nintendo Commits to Sub £170 Wii

I'm kind of feeling the same on that SS4. £170 is a bit too much. I still reckon its more likely to be £130, just like the GC used to be. This way we could get a few more games at launch.

However if I get caught up in the Wiiwind, I'll pay it. £170 is still more reasonable than an over priced PS3.

The Wii was supposed to be the cheaper alternative since its hardware capabilities are far weaker than the PS3 and 360...but at £170 its hardly competitive against the 360 imo...given as said a Core is £199.99 to be fair I rather get a 360 than a Wii given that price point as the 360 offers far more however the Wii does have 512mb memory built in.

But by the time the Wii comes out and since Microsoft have already got a good market position and I am sure if Microsoft want to take another chunk from the market given the size of the company if I were them...I would knock some money off the console or bundle some games to make the 360 the most attractive bundle and buy of the year this X-Mas.

As if the Core System for Xbox 360 is worth a wank. There will be an increasing number of games that won't work with it and you'll need to shell out a ton of money to bring it up to usable spec. Don't forget the endless Live charges on top of that. Won't need to worry about Market Place Points though, given you'll not be able ti access any of that content.

Xbox 360 Core is a joke. The Wii is half the price of a usable 360 system with game.

You know, I think you're 100% wrong.

Because most people won't know if it's usable or not. They'll see Xbox 360 in the shop, at a good price and they'll buy it. Put it this way, I don't know the difference between the two Xbox systems and would probably buy the cheaper system if I was looking at it.

It doesn't matter if in real terms it will be unusable - people will fall for the marketing a buy it. I have no doubt about that.

There's no way I would pay £170 for a Wii, and by the sounds of the reaction here if they release at this price a fair few people will reconsider a purchase, and may decide to go for the established 360.

Considering what you get for the Wii, step forward in gaming wise, its worth that £170, but like I said I still hope its a more reasonble £120-130 (we always get the bad end of pricing in the u.k).

A Core 360 pack is nice if you just want 360 gaming without the online stuff, but frankly i think MS should stop doing them and concentrate on the Premium pack instead. Also to get the benefits of 360 you have to be online and many people are these days anyway. The premium pack meets these needs nicely.

Will MS sell two 360s on two battlefronts? We'll see.

Wii, likely with Zelda and two WiiMotes: £170. (Considered a likely bundle)
Remember that Nintendo has a history of offering free online gaming.

Xbox 360 Core: £200
Controller: £30
Memory Card: £23
Gears of War: £50

So just to get up and running in a basic set up you're at £303. I assume you'll want at least one other pad. Even as stupid an Xboy as you must have one friend! ;-)

Then perhaps you want to be able to play, oh I don't know, all the games in the Xbox library instead of just some of them and go online:

HDD: £60
Wireless Internet (Standard on Wii): £60
Xbox Live Sub 12 months: £40

So now, to get an Xbox 360 with one game and make it do amazing things like play all the games for it and go on the Internet, you're looking at £463

Almost enough to buy three Wii systems at launch.

Even if you want to trail an Ethernet cable through your living room you're still above £400 to play your Xbox 360 in a meaningful way.

I find it astonishing that Adam M changes viewpoint all the time. One time he speaks from the thin viewpoint of a harcore gamer...the other, he suddenly knows all about how people will buy consoles...

And a more likely package is prolly, Wii for 150 quid, includes 2 wii-motes with all attachments, WiiSports and maybe some Nintendollars to get some free gamedownloading. That's a superb get into gaming innovation package right there

And to actually say something related to the topic... I feel bad for you guys. As a Canadian dude, I'll only be shelling out about 250 CAD for a Wii. With a game and taxes I'll be looking at about a $300 purchase. After lookinig at the exchange rates, a direct conversion of 170 pounds to good ol' canadian loonie, comes out to about $355 CAD. Without taxes or game.


So... I can get a game and an extra controller with taxes added in, before you've even covered the initial cost of the Wii...

As do you... Did you even bother to read what you quoted? If you had you would've seen "All official or expected RRP" making your arguement that prices are cheaper at Play.com irrelevant. e-tailers always sell goods cheaper, and the Wii will be just the same, it makes sense to compare RRP's with other RRP's.

As far as I'm aware to play market place games you need a HDD, to play old Xbox games you need a HDD and to play more complex 360 games you need a HDD, only FFXI and Football Manager 2006 atm, but there'll be more. (Even though M$ promised this wouldn't be the case.)

As for Gears of War not being out yet, pft....what does that matter, the Wii isn't out yet.

On a side note, Super Saiyan 4, pft. DBGT is a piece of s**t, it wasn't written by Akira Toriyama, the same guy that wrote both DB and DBZ. It's just a cheap spin off for obsessive types, like you.
