Yeah, playing on keys wasn't easy
Load times, long and chessy
Games were held on tapes
Sometimes on both sides
Would make enough noise
To make you run and hide

Back in the day, the 80's
When I was a teenager
Without any console, computer
Any gold or a pager
The arcades were once a cool place to be
At lunch times and free time to spend pocket money
Like a gladiatorial ring of champions
Many would come to chill and watch, to see
Those who spent pounds to become the best
Sweaty palms and sweaty fingers
Upon joysticks, buttons they rest
Between rounds they get ready for the next round
Fiddling frantic at pockets
Into the slot pops the next few pounds
And fifty pence pieces will do as well
Anything to give you an extra chance
Anything to save you from the game over screen hell
To beat the cheating computer player
Or the challenger beside to you to death
It doesnt matter what time it is
There's no time to wipe your brow
Or barely take a breath
The fight is on, Stage Clear
Mission Completed, Round One, Fight!
Be it a tour de force of fists and feet
Puzzle game, driving game

Throwin 2ups to death en masse, or one by one.
Early days, knockin scores for plays, on all that VCS block s**t,
It looked to all who saw, to play the game was f**kin hardwired in!
I'm rockin on four years, droppin them old school ten pees,
Beatin levels in Scramble you know some f**kers woulda paid to see.
Catchin up on what I missed, busting infinite rounds of Asteroids,
Seems I'm more mechanical than any Tomy-unassembled Zoid.
Pockets full of discs stalking the school computer cluster,
Archimedes, BBC, all fully spiked no need to muster,
My disc format and copy skills, to wire in the games,
An if I'm caught I'll strike a f**king match, I'll leave in flames!
I be the only white face let near Street Fighter 2,
Asian crime syndicate makes way for this boy blue!
A take your Ryu/Ken Bull generic s**t and turn it inside out,
My Yoga teleport sees all side-betting counted out.
My styles is upside sown, I be claw-handed from the east,
F**kin right you gripping teardrops when you step up to my crease.
Jumpin forward ten years, you know ain't nothin much changed,
I'll take your Ragin Demon Ass and turn it inside out again!

I'd write something, but it'd be a hideous wrist-slashing goth piece about the improbably long (five years so far!) death of the Dreamcast. So I won't.
Instead, I shall refer you all to the best/worst piece of music ever written about gaming - The Sega Mastermix '90, courtesy of Mean Machines contest winners "MCs Nick & Steve". Worth hearing for the following line alone: Donatello, Raphaelo, grey imports, pizzas - dis 'em boy!
Now they've gotten me started on the whole "daddy or chips" thing, except with pizzas and Sega. =(
