Summary

When it comes to a good old game of snooker brought to you by the magic combination of console and television, you won't go far wrong with Codemasters officially licensed products. June 2003 sees the release of their cleverly titled World Championship Snooker (WCS) 2003, and verily, the best just got a whole lot better.

As the sole snooker game with that sought-after official seal of approval, WCS 2003 features 28 professional players (including the biggest names such as John Higgins, Mark Williams and Ken Doherty) all modelled with their individual quirks and characteristics, right down to familiar body language and facial expressions. Authentically represented venues, uncannily accurate shot behaviour, and the hushed, reverential atmosphere of world class snooker tournaments are all bundled together to deliver an absorbing game.

In the Career mode, players compete in a World Championship season of 11 events, rising up through the rankings to have a pop at the world title. Prize money earned in successful matches means game bonuses and unlockable treats, such as better cues, custom tables and specially designed baizes - heck, there are even new outfits available for your player.

Delve deeper into the WCS 2003 experience, past all the aforementioned unlockables and bonus items, and you'll discover that the developers have included Pool of both English and American varieties - ideal for those of us who find even a virtual snooker table a little on the large side, and a welcome addition to a title already brimful of enjoyment.
