Summary

Basketball is back for 2002, and the people who do it best are keeping faith with the PlayStation. It’s officially licensed, it’s from Electronic Arts and the name of the game is NBA Live 2002.

NBA Live 2002 features real-players and updated statistics from the 2001 season. But that’s not all. Each of the players in the game has been individually modelled to create an accurate representation of their real-life counterpart, right down to facial features and the brand of shoe they wear. Even with such level of detail evident in this PlayStation title, little, if any slowdown is present.

The controls have been designed with careful consideration and feel surprisingly natural, allowing players to learn the ins and outs of NBA Live 2002 with relative ease. Players are now able to show off their skills with a massive 50 brand new dunks and post-dunk celebrations.

NBA Live 2002 also features a variety of cut-scenes that, although not essential to the game, help to immerse the player in what is a highly atmospheric and enjoyable game.

In terms of design, the basics that made NBA Live 2002’s predecessors such great games remain intact, but are now complemented with all of the above features. Give it a go, you’ll be hooked before you know it.
