Carmack: Rage against the PS3 Machine?
id Software's John Carmack is having some problems with PS3 Rage than he is with Xbox 360 Rage.

He tells Edge, "The (PS3's) RSX is slower than what we have in the 360. The CPU is about the same, but the 360 makes it easier to split things off, and that's what a lot of the work has been, splitting it all into jobs on the PS3".

For those readers who like to play video games rather than learn all the acronyms and/or abbreviations, the RSX is the PlayStation 3's graphics processor - aka the 'Reality Synthesizer' provided by Nvidia.

Basically this means, according to Carmack, that while the Xbox 360 and PC will be able to display Rage's shooty mayhem at 60 frames per second, he can only get the PS3 to display the game at a jerkier 20-30 frames per second.

Fear not for motion sickness brought on by jerking from the screen using your PS3, Carmack says, "Everything is designed as a 60 hertz game. We expect this to be 60 hertz on every supported platform.

"The work remaining is getting it locked so there's never a dropped frame or a tear, but we're confident that we're going to get that."

More arguments about frame-rates will rage across the Internet all weekend. What's the game like though? Of course, nobody knows yet.
