As the ninth canonical entry in the Metal Gear series, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is an action hack and slash video game developed by Platinum Games and produced by Kojima Productions. During the initial stage of development, Kojima Productions was solely in charge of developing the game, with the game name as Metal Gear Solid: Rising. Later, Platinum Games became the gaming developer and Kojima Productions changed into the producer. Meanwhile, the game was renamed as Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The PC version of the game was launched on Steam on January 10, 2014.
