Wow... this is just stupid. Scaling the maps has already been done and that is not even close to being to scale. What your map guy doesn't realize is that the GTA V map only shows main roads, where as GTA IV and San Andreas show minor roads as well... your guy is comparing apples to oranges. Furthermore, you have to remove the fricken water from the maps to get an actual experience. The majority of the water in GTA V is on the outside of the map, IV and SA are in the middle of the map, making the look deceivingly bigger than they are. Go learn from the forums....

Let's think about this like intelligent people for a second and see if we can't come to a reasonable conclusion... Here are some facts for you guys since you didn't bother to do ANY research.

GTA San Andreas - 13.6 sq. miles
GTA IV - 6.8 sq. miles

GTA V, while not confirmed, is said to be 49 sq. miles.

And even if it's not exactly that size, how the HELL do you figure that san Andreas is smaller than GTA IV?

You guys should be completely ashamed of this crap, you haven't done any work. I bet your "map guy" just copied and pasted those pictures in 5 seconds and said..."Uh, GTA IV is probably bigger than SA cuz it's newer, so that looks pretty close"

WHAT IDIOTS!!! GET A REAL JOB

If your map comparison is to be believed then you could fit the entire military airforce base shown in the GTA V map onto the runway of the Liberty City airport.
You spout nonsense about your map guy and pixel counting and scaling but any f***ing idiot can see that the Liberty city map in your comparison is ludicrously out of proportion.
You could fit the whole military base on Liberty Island for God sake

Did you include the underwater portion as well?

This is so inaccurate. Gta sa was a 13.9 square mike map while gta v is a 49 square mile map. Do the math it's about 350% bigger, not 220%

Well, some of you have indicated that you've got some problems with the scale comparison provided here. I, can see your point. I've asked the map makers and they've told me that, "at the time of creating the comparison we weren't privy to the info that apparently the GTAV map doesn't show minor roads, and we matches scale using roads and intersections as comparable features."

There's actually more to this story than I can talk about here, but for now, apologies for the scale problems.

Did it not occur to the "map makers" that the runway at Francis International Airport from GTA IV is almost twice as long as the runway at Fort Zancudo and the runways at Los Santos airport in their comparison picture.
