Recent figures from games industry body UKIE show that the 2010 UK video games market was worth £2.88bn. That, however, is down from 2009's £3.3bnUKIE's figures indicate that in the 'Next Gen' hardware race the Xbox 360 £232m in sales beat Sony’s PS3 with £229m.
Microsoft with £538m in software revenue also beat the PS3s £414m.
Peripherals sold well through the year, seeing their value total £545m and totalling 25.8m units. UK consumers also purchased 63m console and PC games, almost one per UK resident.
What's fascinating is that UKIE fails to mention Nintendo in its release.
UKIE director general Mike Rawlinson said of the matter:
“Despite 2010 being a tough year for the economy, the video games and interactive entertainment industry continues to perform strongly"
"As the UK’s leading creative industry, these figures demonstrate the increasingly popular position of video games in everyone’s everyday lives, and the strength that the sector has to see it through tough times.
