Summary

In a world of annual sequels to the gaming world's big series, let's spare a moment to think of those who have been patiently waiting for the latest Dreamfall title. The first was released in 1999, the second in 2006, and it's only 11 years later that we get to see the latest installment, split across five chapters, finally finished off and collected. Fans will no doubt find it worth the wait, however, and newcomers are invited in too.

The game is split across two parallel worlds, each accessible to the other via dreams. One is a cyberpunk dystopia, Stark, and the other a land of magic and fantasy, Arcadia. The series' heroine, Zoe Castillo, returns to tackle a criminal conspiracy that aims to enslave both worlds by stealing their inhabitants' dreams.

The game sticks with the point and click adventure style of its forerunners, with a mix of puzzling and interactive conversations that impact the narrative in a way that will be familiar to fans of Telltale games such as The Walking Dead. Developer Red Thread Games (founded by founded by Ragnar Tørnquist, writer and director of the previous series games) has expanded on past entries, however. The rich worlds of Stark and Arcadia offer players the chance to roam and explore, rewarding those who really poke around with secrets.

This edition of Dreamfall Chapters packs all five episodes into one box, giving console owners the ideal entry point into Stark and Arcadia without even needing them to fall asleep.
