Summary

Strap yourselves into the cockpit because we have a new futuristic racing title for the PlayStation 2. Introducing G-surfers, the ultimate adrenaline inducing racing experience. If you love Wipeout (and who doesn’t?) then you really need to check out this title.

In the near-future, the predicted apocalypse takes out most of the planet and almost every inhabitant. It takes literally decades for the remaining survivors to reconstruct civilisation. Like a phoenix, Earth came back to life with new technologies and capabilities. One major technical advancement was the development of a new jet propulsion system that allowed unprecedented speeds to be attained. Gigantic racecourses were criss-crossed around the globe, bringing a new kind of racing with them: G-Surfing.

In G-surfers, you race against 15 other competitors on tracks that twist, turn, loop, and corkscrew. One record that G-Surfers currently holds is the total number of polygons in a video game. There are over 1 trillion. We did mention that these tracks stretch the planet and we meant it. A comprehensive built-in track editor lets users create an unlimited number of tracks that can be customised with a variety of hazards, including mines and jumps. Elemental power-ups enhance the race, with fire and water directly affecting the handling characteristics of the vehicles.

Playability is supreme in G-Surfers, players need quick reactions to complement their calm thinking. At maximum velocity, you only have a few split seconds to decide on the best racing action, otherwise you can expect complete devastation. The control method is refined to allow precise and non-frustrating gameplay.

G-Surfers is more than happy to step into the ring with Wipeout Fusion, and will more than satisfy the wait until Fusion arrives. Recommended.
