Summary

Stealth-based games such as Metal Gear Solid have mostly been targeted towards an older audience. But things are set to change, thanks to Infogrames, with the release of the fabulous Sheep Raider for PC. The stealth-em-up never looked like so much fun.

Because it’s always more fun to play the bad guy, Sheep Raider allows players to assume the role of Ralf Wolf (aka Coyote) in a sheep-stealing quest of stealth. But your challenge is not going to be an easy one, since Sam Sheepdog is on the lookout and is highly protective of his herd. Other Looney Tunes characters, including Foghorn Leghorn, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig make appearances from time to time too, adding to the familiar feel.

The game takes place within a series of 3D environments that are far more lush than those seen in the PlayStation version. Textures are now smooth, the frame rate has been improved, and the flow of gameplay is much easier on the eye. But these environments are extremely tough and require some deep concentration to get around. You must learn to use your abilities to hide, sneak, creep and swim your way through the levels without getting caught. No Looney Tunes game would be complete without the infamous ACME gadgets, and Sheep Raider has plenty. To help you in your mission, you can make use of sheep perfume, umbrellas, ACME rockets and even a catapult sheep costume. The controls aren’t quite as simple as those seen on PlayStation, but given a reasonable controller from Microsoft or Saitek, Sheep Raider becomes much more fun to play.

The game takes place across 15 stages, each with their own requirements and challenges, so the longevity of the game is notable. As a complete game, Sheep Raider will not only appeal to Looney Tunes fans, but to anyone with a sense of humour and a penchant for puzzle games.
