Summary

Aside from Mario, the unleashing of the Pokemon games upon the industry has been Nintendo’s most valuable decision to date. Ranging from video games to TV series to movies, Pokemon has infiltrated the lives of both the young and old. Following multi-million sales of the classic Red, Blue and Yellow versions, Silver and Gold are now ready to hit high street shops in the thousands.

Originally playing the part of Ash from Pallet town, Pokemon Silver tells the story of a new trainer (you) in an entirely new Pokemon world. Players of the original will be pleased to hear that all original Pokemon have been included, as well as dozens of completely new Pokemon, taking the grand total from 150 to 250. However, catching the complete bestiary is not as simple as it previously was. Thanks to the new real-time game clock, both night time and day time Pokemon have been included, meaning that you must switch your GameBoy on in the middle of the night to even get a glimpse of some of them. The Pokedex remains intact, but is now joined by an all-new Pokegear option. Here, you will be able to use new features such as radios and cell phones. Now fully compatible with GameBoy Color, the visuals of Pokemon Silver have been noticeably improved over its predecessors. What’s more, Pokemon trainers can still trade old Pokemon with owners of the Red, Blue and Yellow versions, as well as the new Pokemon Gold counterpart.

There are so many new features present here that Pokemon Silver deserves to be purchased by any ardent Pokemon fan. Featuring new Pokemon types, a new world and eight new gym leaders, Pokemon Silver poses a greater challenge than anything to go before it.
